Product Description
Overview
A 1-metre coaxial cable assembly with an SHV (Safe High Voltage) plug at each end, built in the UK by RFShop on RG11 75Ω coaxial cable. Intended for high-voltage DC bias and low-frequency applications where a heavier, higher-voltage-rated cable is needed — PMT bias supplies, detector HV feeds, ion-source cabling and similar instrumentation where the signal is DC or sub-MHz and impedance matching is not a concern.
SHV is a bayonet-lock MIL-STD-348B coaxial interface specifically designed for safer high-voltage handling: the plug and jack geometry prevents accidental mating with BNC, and the shrouded contact reduces the risk of contact with a live pin.
Impedance note
This assembly uses 75Ω RG11 cable with a 50Ω SHV interface. The impedance mismatch means this cable is not suitable for RF signal work — it is designed for HV DC bias feeds and very-low-frequency applications where characteristic impedance is irrelevant. If you need an impedance-matched 50Ω SHV assembly for RF use, see our SHV-to-SHV assemblies on RG58.

Why RG11?
RG11 is a larger-diameter cable with a higher voltage rating than RG58, making it a better choice for applications carrying higher DC bias voltages. The thicker dielectric provides greater voltage standoff, bringing the cable’s rating closer to the connector’s 3,500 V rms capability. For HV DC feeds — where characteristic impedance has no bearing on performance — RG11 offers a more robust, higher-voltage-rated cable path than thinner 50Ω alternatives.
Applications
- High-voltage DC bias feeds for photomultiplier tubes (PMTs)
- Scintillation and radiation detector HV supply lines
- Ion-source and mass spectrometry detector bias cabling
- HV DC power-supply to instrument interconnection
- Nuclear and particle-physics instrumentation rack wiring
- High-voltage test fixtures and bench cabling
Mating and safety
SHV uses a bayonet-lock that positively retains the pair. It mates only with other SHV connectors. Despite the visual similarity to BNC, do not attempt to mate SHV with BNC — mechanical interference and electrical mismatch can damage both parts, and in HV use this is a genuine safety hazard.
Custom lengths and variants
This listing is for the 1 m assembly. We also build SHV-to-SHV assemblies in other lengths and on other cable types (RG58 for impedance-matched 50Ω use, HV-rated cables, low-noise variants). Please contact us for a quote on custom SHV cable assemblies.
