Overview

A 1.2-metre coaxial cable assembly with an SHV (Safe High Voltage) plug at each end, built in the UK by RFShop on RG58 50Ω coaxial cable. Used throughout laboratory and scientific work where a moderate high-voltage signal needs to travel a short distance on coax — PMT bases, scintillation detectors, pulse generators, HV test fixtures and bench-to-rack interconnection in nuclear and particle instrumentation.

SHV is a bayonet-lock MIL-STD-348B coaxial interface specifically designed for safer high-voltage handling: the plug and jack geometry prevents accidental mating with BNC, and the shrouded contact reduces the risk of contact with a live pin.

Important — assembly voltage rating

The JyeBao SHV3100-0058 connector is rated 3,500 V rms working voltage at sea level. Standard RG58 cable is typically rated in the region of 1,900 V peak. In practice, the assembly’s working voltage is limited by the cable, not the connector. For applications that need to exploit the full 3.5 kV rms SHV rating, specify a high-voltage cable variant — please contact us for custom assemblies on HV-rated coax.

Mating and safety

SHV uses a bayonet-lock that positively retains the pair. It mates only with other SHV connectors. Despite the visual similarity to BNC, do not attempt to mate SHV with BNC — mechanical interference and electrical mismatch can damage both parts, and in HV use this is a genuine safety hazard.
